Volkswagen scandal is 'image disaster' for German car industry

KOLKATA: The Volkswagen emission crisis is an image disaster for the German car industry, a German diplomat said here today.

"Huge image disaster not only for Volkswagen but for the whole German car industry," German Consul General to Kolkata, Olaf Iversen said when asked.

The crisis seems more of a software issue than an engineering but one has to wait till the investigation ends, he told an an interactive session of MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Europe's largest carmaker is battling manipulation crisis in diesel emissions tests in the United States and Europe.
