Volkswagen is looking at Spain, Portugal and France as possible locations for a battery cell production plant it plans to build by 2026 as part of its electric vehicle expansion, board member Thomas Schmall said.

"It depends on where we get the best set-up in the region," Schmall told Volkswagen's Power Day.

He said that for a subsequent battery cell production factory planned for 2027 in eastern Europe, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic were possible locations.
