Toyota to recall 19,529 vehicles in China

BEIJING: Japanese auto giant Toyota will recall 19,529 imported Lexus vehicles over defective engines in China, the country's top quality watchdog said today.

The recall by Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., set to begin from tomorrow, will involve 19,529 vehicles produced between July 7, 2015 and April 5, 2016, a statement issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China said.

Programmes controlling exhaust gas re-circulation valves may fail in the affected vehicles and may cause the engines to stop, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Toyota promised to check and update the programs free of charge.
