The former CEO of shoe retailer Zappos - Tony Hsieh - has died, succumbing to injuries he sustained after a fire engulfed his Connecticut home on November 18.

Hsieh rose to prominence after he joined the shoe company in 1999, building it up and eventually selling to Amazon in 2009 for just over a billion dollars. He remained at the company till August this year.

He was also a motivational speaker and an author, but was most popular for pioneering a focus on company culture, switching to a style of governance called a Holacracy that initially caused friction at the workplace but eventually ended up being adopted.
