Greenberger will take the helm from John Harris, who will take on the role of Politico's chairman.
Politico gets the most traffic of any U.S. political news site, with more than 40 million visits in February, according to Press Gazette. That's ahead of several prominent general news outlets including Buzzfeed, Huffpost and Axios.
Greenberger has been an executive vice president at the newspaper since 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile. Previously, he worked in ABC News as its Washington bureau chief and was the youngest executive producer in the history of ABC's "This Week."
"Jonathan's candidacy prevailed in a highly competitive field of contenders because of his ideas and achievements in innovation and driving swift organization-wide change," Axel Springer subsidiary Politico Founder and Chairman John Harris said.
