NEW DELHI/OSLO: Norway-based Telenor Group today announced appointment of former Uninor CEO Morten Sorby as Head of Region Asia in Telenor Group from June 1, 2015.

"Telenor Group today announced that Morten Sorby has been appointed Head of Region Asia in Telenor Group, effective 1 June 2015," Telenor said in a statement.

Appointment of Sorby follows elevation Head of Telenor Group's Asia operations and Executive Vice President Sigve Brekke as President and CEO of Telenor Group.

"Morten brings his vast experience from the global mobile industry to the role as head of our operations in Asia. Morten will continue our growth story in this dynamic region," Telenor Group President and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas said.

Both Brekke and Sorby have served as Chief Executive Officer of Uninor, which is 100 per cent owned by Telenor Group. While Sorby was CEO of Uninor from January to November 2014, Brekke headed India operations as Managing Director from 2010 to May 2013.
