EPO offers free access to 85 million global patent database

KOLKATA: The European Patent Office ( EPO) offers an extensive searchable database of 85 million worldwide patents including those on green technologies.

"The EPO patent database has about 85 million patents from 90 countries including those on green technologies," Arvind Chopra, European Business and Technology Centre Head of IPR, said here today on the sidelines of a seminar on green technologies by the Bengal Chamber.

He said the EPO was promoting green technology related patent awareness in India.

"In order to popularise it, we are offering free online search facilities at Espacenet. Advanced patent search facilities such as Global Patent Index ( GPI) are also offered at low cost," Chopra said.

In the current scenario, he said, global economies were increasingly turning towards clean energy sources.
