Amazon in talks to buy AI startup Decart for around $7 billion: Report
Amazon is reportedly in talks to acquire artificial-intelligence startup Decart for about $7 billion. The acquisition would give Amazon significant access to technology for managing different AI chips effectively. Decart, founded in 2023, was valu...

A deal could be reached soon, the report said, provided the discussions do not collapse or if another potential buyer emerges.
The proposed acquisition would give Amazon access to technology that helps developers switch between different artificial intelligence chips, a capability gaining importance as companies compete for computing power to develop and run AI models.
San Francisco-based Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May and has raised more than $400 million in venture capital funding from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures, according to PitchBook, as cited by WSJ.
The company was founded in 2023 by Israeli engineers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf, who are brothers, and Moshe Shalev.
Amazon's AI chip push
The potential acquisition comes as Amazon steps up efforts to strengthen its position in AI infrastructure and challenge Nvidia's dominance in the market for graphics processing units (GPUs), specialised chips widely used to power AI applications.Amazon has developed its own AI chips, including Trainium3, through its cloud computing business Amazon Web Services (AWS).
According to WSJ, AWS gave Decart early access to its custom chip in 2025 after meeting the startup's founders and being impressed by them.
Decart's software enables developers to switch between different AI chips, potentially helping companies manage computing resources across hardware platforms as demand for AI infrastructure grows.
Amazon's acquisition strategy
The potential Decart deal would rank among Amazon's largest acquisitions in recent years if completed at the reported valuation.Amazon acquired film and television studio MGM for $6.5 billion in 2022. Earlier in 2026, it announced a roughly $11 billion deal to acquire satellite communications company Globalstar as part of its push into satellite-based connectivity.
Israeli news outlet Calcalist reported earlier this month that Decart was in advanced talks to be acquired by a major technology company.
The latest discussions with Amazon, however, remain subject to change, according to WSJ's report.
