Buffett's company buys more shares in railroad
Billionaire investor Warren Buffett's company has bought another 2.2 million shares of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. stock, increasing its stake to more than 70 million shares.
It means Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. now controls more than 20 percent of the nation's second-largest railroad. Documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Monday show Berkshire completed its latest purchases on Thursday.
Berkshire's BNSF stock is held by National Indemnity Co, one of Berkshire's insurance subsidiaries. Buffett has said railroads have good long-term prospects and are healthier today than in past years.
