British jobless rate slips to 7.9 per cent: official data

Britain's unemployment rate dipped to 7.9 per cent in the three months to the end of April, compared with the November-January period, official data showed on Wednesday.

LONDON: Britain's unemployment rate dipped to 7.9 per cent in the three months to the end of April, compared with the November-January period, official data showed on Wednesday.

The unemployment rate compared with 8.0 per cent in the three months to March, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.

The number of unemployed people, meanwhile, rose by 23,000 in the three months to the end of April to reach 2.47 million.
