Official statisticians say Britain's economy grew by 0.3 percent in the first quarter of the year.

LONDON: Official statisticians say Britain's economy grew by 0.3 percent in the first quarter of the year.

That was below the growth rate of 0.4 percent in the fourth quarter when the British economy broke out of a prolonged slump.

Tuesday's final figure on growth of gross domestic product in the first quarter was a bit better than the estimate of 0.2 percent in April.
