BAE Systems to cut 200 jobs
British defence manufacturer BAE Systems said Thursday it was cutting immediately 200 jobs at its land systems business.
"We recognise the impact these job losses (in Britain) will have on our employees and the communities in which we operate and we always aim to mitigate as much as possible the impact of losses by offering voluntary redundancy where we can, as well as re-skilling and re-training people for alternative roles," BAE's head of land systems, David Allott, said in a statement.
"We have been able to postpone this decision (until now) due to high workload on meeting urgent operational requirements, but that activity is now tailing off."
The company said in August that net profit rose 14 percent in the first half of the year to 586 mn pounds (695 mn euros, 870 bn dollars), boosted by demand for vehicles used during the ongoing US-led conflicts in Iraq
and Afghanistan.
