New automobile sales in Japan plunged 32.4 per cent last month from a year earlier in the face of a severe recession in Asia's largest economy.

TOKYO: New automobile sales in Japan plunged 32.4 per cent last month from a year earlier in the face of a severe recession in Asia's largest economy, an industry association reported on Monday.

Sales in February dropped to 218,212 vehicles, down from 322,613 in the same month of the previous year, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said. The figure excludes sales of mini-cars or mini-trucks.
