Winx’s highly anticipated $7 million foal, Quinceanera, was officially retired on Wednesday without ever making it to the racetrack. The filly had made headlines in 2024 after setting a global record for a thoroughbred yearling, when Australian Debbie Kepitis’s Woppitt Bloodstock outbid strong interest from buyers in America, Japan, and Europe. However, acting on veterinary advice, connections decided to retire Quinceanera before her debut, ending her racing career before it even began.

Sired by leading stallion Pierro, the filly carried huge expectations from the start. However, the three-year-old will now transition into a broodmare role, reserved exclusively for breeding. Given her elite lineage, Quinceanera is still expected to make a meaningful impact in the breeding barn, carrying forward the legacy of Winx. While she won’t be seen on the racetrack, her influence could be felt through future generations of racehorses.

Woppitt Bloodstock posted on social media that the 'tough decision' to retire Quinceanera was made following veterinary advice and in consultation with trainer Chris Waller.

"Although disappointing, it's in her best interest to now begin her career as a broodmare," it added.

Winx retired in 2019 as the world’s top-rated turf horse, capping an incredible four-year unbeaten run that included 33 consecutive wins and 25 Group 1 titles. Over her career, she earned more than AUS$26 million (around $18.3 million) in prize money.

In the breeding barn, her journey has had mixed fortunes. Winx tragically lost her first foal, sired by I Am Invincible, during birth. She later produced a colt by leading sire Snitzel, which was expected to fetch a record price at a highly anticipated Easter auction. However, the young horse was withdrawn from sale following a paddock accident.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, Winx - bred from Street Cry and Vegas Showgirl - is now 14 years old. It was confirmed last month that she is expecting a foal by stallion Too Darn Hot.
