Who is Guy Ashford? Viral video sparks outrage after 2HD Radio boss allegedly gropes female employee at Australian Audio Awards

Guy Ashford is a longtime Australian radio executive who has served as general manager of Newcastle-based station 2HD and NEWFM, both owned by the Super Radio Network. He has worked in the radio industry for decades, including previous leadership roles with the network before returning in 2021. Ashford is now facing intense public scrutiny after a viral video from the Australian Audio Awards in Sydney appeared to show him behaving inappropriately toward presenter Cheralyn Darcey while she was accepting a Best Newcomer award. Following the incident, Super Radio Network confirmed that Ashford had been suspended and that an internal investigation would take place. The footage sparked widespread criticism online, with many viewers expressing support for Darcey and condemning the alleged conduct.


A video recorded from the audience showed 2HD presenter Darcey walking onto the stage to accept the Best Newcomer award for her program, 'The Nightline'. Moments later, Ashford appeared to hurry onto the stage and embrace Darcey in celebration. He then spun her around in front of the audience during the award presentation. As the interaction unfolded, footage appeared to show Ashford placing his left hand on Darcey’s backside, prompting visible surprise and criticism from viewers after the video circulated online.


According to Mediaweek, Ashford, the head of Newcastle-based radio station 2HD, has been suspended following an incident that occurred during the 2026 Australian Audio Awards at Carriageworks on Thursday night.

The Super Radio Network (SRN), which owns 2HD, later confirmed the suspension. SRN Managing Director Graham Mott also told the outlet that Ashford had been 'suspended from work' while the matter is being addressed.

Mott also said that he had personally apologised to Cheralyn and her husband, who was present at the Australian Audio Awards when the incident occurred.

"We will be having further discussions regarding the matter," Mott said as quoted by Mediaweek.
