While confirming that he will remain in Parliament as the member for Maranoa, Littleproud said it was time for new leadership and that he plans to contest the next federal election in 2028.

Standing besides his wife, Amelia Littleproud, the Nationals leader told reporters he had intended to step down earlier this year after the Coalition reunited. “I'm buggered; I've had enough,” he said.

David Littleproud’s wife, Amelia Dobson, is a senior banking professional who has largely stayed out of the political spotlight despite her partner’s high-profile career.

A senior banking executive

Amelia Dobson built her career in the finance sector and has held senior roles in agribusiness banking. She has worked with major institutions, including Commonwealth Bank of Australia, focusing on regional and agricultural finance.

As per her LinkedIn, she has vast experience as a banking and agribusiness finance professional with more than a decade of leadership roles in Australia’s financial services sector. She currently works with Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where she serves as Executive Manager for Regional and Agribusiness Queensland Agri South, a position she has held since March 2024.

Before this, she served as Executive Manager – Regional and Agribusiness South West Queensland from March 2021, and earlier as Executive Manager – Regional and Agribusiness Northern Inland NSW between August 2019 and March 2021.

Prior to joining Commonwealth Bank, Littleproud spent more than seven years with Suncorp Group in several leadership roles. Earlier in her career, she served as Retail Branch Manager in Yeppoon and as a Home Lending Consultant in Airlie Beach and Mackay, as her LinkedIn profile suggests.

Alongside her corporate career, she has also contributed to academia and industry advisory work as a Business School Advisory Board Member at the University of Southern Queensland since March 2022.

She is originally from Japan but raised in Queensland

As per a Daily Mail report from 2022 Amelia was born in Hiroshima, Japan, but grew up in Toowoomba, Queensland, where she built much of her career in banking.

Littleproud holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Queensland and completed the Company Director Course through the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2021.

Relationship with David Littleproud

Dobson and David Littleproud reportedly began their relationship just months after the Nationals leader separated from his first wife, Sarah, in 2019, bringing an end to their 20-year marriage.

Coincidentally, Littleproud announced the separation a day after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed he had split from his former wife, Carmel Tebbutt, according to the report by the Daily Mail.

The couple had been seen together at several high-profile political events, including The Nationals Federal Conference in 2023.
