A major Westpac outage has left thousands of customers across Australia unable to access EFTPOS services. The disruption affected the card payment systems, causing widespread frustration as people struggled to make purchases. Social media quickly filled with complaints from users caught off guard by the sudden failure. Westpac confirmed the outage and said its teams were working urgently to restore services as soon as possible. The incident highlights growing concerns about the reliability of digital banking systems.

More than 3,000 customers reported issues with Westpac services shortly after 12.30 PM on Wednesday. A Westpac spokesperson told NewsWire, as quoted by news.com.au, that the bank was aware some customers were having trouble accessing their banking services.

“We’re working to restore services as quickly as possible and apologise to customers for the inconvenience.”

Westpac’s website reports that some merchant systems are operating at reduced performance, with EFTPOS terminals and online eCommerce platforms experiencing intermittent problems processing transactions.

“Investigations are underway and we hope to have you back up and running as soon as possible,” the website states, as quoted by news.com.au.
