Authorities have warned of extreme fire danger across Victoria. At the same time, Queensland residents are urged to monitor updates as a tropical system with the potential to develop into a cyclone approaches, potentially exacerbating the region’s recent flood crisis.
According to 9News website, Victoria is set to be engulfed by a scorching heatwave over the long weekend, while further north, a low-pressure system is developing near flood-affected regions of Queensland. Temperatures in the northern Victorian town are forecast to hit 42 degrees tomorrow, climbing to a scorching 48 degrees on Tuesday as the heatwave reaches its peak.
The town’s previous record high was 47.2 degrees, set back in 1939.
Temperatures in Melbourne will peak at 40 degrees tomorrow, dip to 24 on Sunday and 30 on Monday, then climb sharply to 41 degrees on Tuesday. The hot and dry conditions are expected to raise fire risks across Victoria, just weeks after devastating bushfires destroyed hundreds of homes.
