‘This is for Donald Trump’: Man charged after he allegedly ate live goldfish in Sydney pet store

A shocking incident has surfaced in Sydney, where a 20-year-old man allegedly consumed a live fish while on a video call at a pet store in the city’s north-west. The man in question here reportedly said, “This is for Donald Trump,” before he swallowed the goldfish. After reports pertaining to the incident came through, police were called to Castle Hill Petbarn.

He left staff and customers astonished as he allegedly swallowed the red and white Comet goldfish whole. According to Sky News Australia, the man allegedly plucked a live fish from a tank and proceeded to consume it on Sunday, July 6, 2025. He has been charged by NSW Police, alleging that the man consumed the goldfish whole while filming his stunt on the communication platform Discord.

The 20-year-old man left the store shortly before returning to pay for the $8 fish he had allegedly eaten. “He walked straight over to the tank, picked it up, and ate it,” one worker told The Daily Telegraph. “He swallowed the whole thing in front of me … I heard him crunch on it.”


The man has assisted police with enquiries after officers from The Hills Police Area Command launched an investigation on Sunday, July 6, 2025. He has been charged with behaving offensively and committing an act of animal cruelty.

“The goldfish gobbler incident is being treated seriously due to concerns around animal cruelty and public decency,” NSW Police said in a statement. He will appear in Parramatta Local Court in August.
