The 80th edition of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race promises another thrilling chapter in one of sailing’s most iconic events. Set to start on Boxing Day, the 2025 race will see a strong international and domestic fleet tackle the demanding 628-nautical-mile course from Sydney Harbour to Hobart. Weather conditions, strategy, and seamanship will once again play a decisive role. All eyes will be on LawConnect, which is chasing a remarkable hat-trick of line honours after dominant performances in recent years. The powerful super maxi enters as a clear favorite, but fierce competition from rival yachts and the notoriously unpredictable Bass Strait mean nothing is guaranteed. With history, prestige, and bragging rights at stake, the milestone race is set to deliver high drama and elite sailing.

The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race covers 628 nautical miles, or about 1,163 kilometers. The line honours winner typically completes the course in around 48 hours. According to Sporting News, the current race record was set by Comanche in 2017, finishing in 1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes, and 24 seconds. CAN LAWCONNECT CLAIM A LINE HONOURS HAT-TRICK?

The official entry list for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race features 142 yachts, making it the second-largest fleet of the century, reported Sporting News. Defending champion LawConnect will be chasing a third consecutive line-honours victory, with strong competition expected from rivals including Master Lock Comanche, Palm Beach XI, and SHK Scallywag.

LawConnect, previously known as Perpetual Loyal, is owned and skippered by Christian Beck. As reported by ABC News, the yacht secured line honours in 2016 and, after finishing second three times in 2019, 2021, and 2022, achieved victories in both 2023 and 2024. Now, LawConnect is aiming to extend its impressive streak and remain a dominant force at the front of the fleet.
