Masked gunmen open fire in western Sydney , three shot near Auburn station in broad daylight; police hunt escalates
Three people have been shot and injured in a broad daylight attack near Auburn train station in Western Sydney, sparking renewed concern about organized crime in the region. The incident occurred just after 1:15 pm on Monday(June 16) on South Parade, a bustling street lined with shops and eateries.

One victim reportedly suffered a head wound, two others had chest wounds

According to NSW Police, the victims were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for gunshot wounds. Their conditions have not been disclosed publicly. South Parade and the surrounding streets have been closed as police set up a crime scene and investigators began collecting evidence and speaking to witnesses.

Ashim Shresdha, a local business owner, was working nearby when he heard what he believed were seven gunshots. “I heard five gunshots noise and then after about five seconds, another two shots,” he was quoted by ABC news portal.

He then saw two masked men in black balaclavas running from the scene toward a black Audi parked at a nearby bus stop. “One guy was masked with a gun in his hand,” Shresdha recalled. “After about ten seconds another guy ran out to him, and they left.” Shresdha believes the victims were inside a local kebab store when the shooting occurred.

NSW Premier Chris Minns condemned the violence, calling it “shockingly brazen.” He praised police for their swift response and stressed the state’s resolve in addressing gun violence tied to organized crime.

“The NSW Police Force has levelled charges in relation to 20 of the 25 organised crime murders since 2021, and they’re not done yet,” he said. “People committing this kind of violence can expect to be arrested, charged, and to spend years inside small jail cells.”

Police Minister Yasmin Catley also issued a statement describing the incident as “horrifying.” She added, “This kind of violence has no place in our community. It’s unacceptable and it shakes the sense of safety we all deserve.”

The shooting comes after the launch of Taskforce Falcon, a dedicated 150-member strike force aimed at cracking down on gang-related violence in Sydney. The task force was formed in response to a surge in underworld shootings and has already made arrests and seized weapons linked to criminal syndicates.

Police are now investigating whether the Auburn shooting is connected to any of the recent gang activity being monitored by the task force.
