Police arrived at the scene and removed the shark from the roadway. A blurred image of the carcass was shared on The Hills Police Area Command's Facebook page. "Interesting call this morning about a shark sighting - 20km inland at Fairway Drive Kellyville," the caption of the post read. "Not sure how this shark ended up here? "
The closest beaches, including Dee Why, South Curl Curl and Narrabeen Beach, are about an hour away by car, 9 News reported. The image was posted alongside a screenshot of a post from the Dorsal Shark Reports Australia Facebook page. It apparently showed a shark sighting report for the animal at Kellyville.
Many people across Australia use the Dorsal app, website and social media pages to track shark sightings following a series of attacks.
At least four people were attacked by sharks in New South Wales over a 48-hour span in January 2026, The Guardian reported. Among these incidents, three were reported at Sydney beaches, according to the news outlet. Shark bites are often considered traumatic, and swimmers in Sydney are usually warned to stay out of the water in the areas where risk is high.
