The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the world’s most respected voices for peace, compassion and non-violence. Born Tenzin Gyatso on July 6, 1935, in a small village in northeastern Tibet, he was identified at the age of two as the 14th reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, a lineage revered by Buddhists as embodying compassion.

He assumed full political authority in Tibet in 1950, just as Chinese forces entered the region, and in 1959, fled into exile in India following a failed uprising against Chinese rule. Since then, he has lived in Dharamshala, which became the center of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Internationally, the Dalai Lama is recognized not only as a spiritual leader but also as a moral philosopher and a global humanitarian. He has spent decades advocating for Tibetan cultural preservation, religious freedom, and a peaceful resolution to Tibet’s status through dialogue rather than violence.

Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, he has consistently emphasized universal human values such as empathy, ethical living, and inner peace, engaging audiences worldwide through teachings, books, and conversations with scientists, political leaders, and faith communities.

Meaning of the day

This quote underscores the idea that love and compassion are fundamental to human survival, not optional emotions or moral extras. It suggests that societies cannot endure on power, wealth, or technology alone; they require empathy, kindness, and concern for others to function peacefully and sustainably.

Without compassion, human relationships fracture, conflicts deepen, and injustice becomes normalized, ultimately threatening social stability and collective well-being. The message is that love and compassion are the moral foundations that hold humanity together, enabling cooperation, understanding, and resilience in the face of hardship.
