Police sprung into action and arrested a 17-year-old boy at a house on James Street on Sunday. He was taken to the Coffs Harbour Police Station for questioning.
According to 9News, the woman was treated by paramedics for serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
The boy was charged with multiple offences, including failing to stop and assist afterwards and causing grievous bodily harm. 9 News reported that he was refused bail and will appear in a children's court today.
As the investigation into the incident continues, police are appealing to the public for any information or video footage that may have recorded the suspected hit-and-run, asking witnesses to come forward or reach out to Crime Stoppers.
