Meanwhile, Victoria can expect gusts between 70 km/hr to 85 km/hr, peaking at nearly 90km/hr in both Victoria and Tasmania. Weatherzone, however, said that Melbourne is set to see relatively calmer highs of 60 km/hr to 75 km/hr.
Conditions similar to Melbourne are likely to persist on Tuesday (June 17) in Victoria, Tasmania, and southeast New South Wales, "where alpine areas could still register gusts approaching 85 km/hr". Weatherzone has predicted that showers would "sweep through" most districts, with some isolated thunderstorms contributing to local totals of 20 mm to 50 mm.
Snow forecast
Snow has been forecast for the alpine regions late Monday night, with falls of 10 cm to 15 cm expected by late Tuesday or early Wednesday. "Those winds could stir up short-lived white-out conditions and poor visibility, so it may not be the most comfortable day on the slopes, though the fresh fall will help preserve a firm base for the resorts," Weatherzone said, according to 9 News.
"From mid-week a ridge of high pressure will slip in from the west, steadily easing the wind and allowing sunnier, calmer days to take hold through to Saturday—ideal for making the most of the new snow once conditions settle," the weather company further stated.
