Mordialloc beach: Riot police swarm area after youths storm supermarket, throw items at officers – watch video

Riot police were deployed to Mordialloc Beach in Melbourne’s south-east on Tuesday, December 16 after a large gathering of youths turned unruly, forcing a nearby Mordialloc Woolworths into lockdown and prompting concerns over public safety. According to 9News, more than 200 young people had gathered near the beach when police were first called to the Woolworths store following reports of a brawl shortly after 3pm.

As per footage circulating online, a large group of mostly shirtless youths was seen surrounding police officers on the beach.



While separate videos from inside the supermarket showed beachgoers running through aisles, knocking over products, spilling drinks and pulling items from shelves. As per the outlet mordialloc beach youth smashed items; some were stolen.

According to Fixyanet, citing Victoria Police, the situation escalated as the crowd became hostile, with objects allegedly thrown at officers attempting to disperse the group. Members of the Public Order Response Team were called in, highlighting the seriousness of the Mordialloc news incident. Later vision from the beach showed a disturbing moment in which a group appeared to stomp on a young man’s head.

Victoria Police later confirmed that no weapons were sighted and no serious injuries were reported, despite the disorder, notes the outlet. As evening approached, officers continued patrols around Mordialloc Beach to break up the gathering and restore calm to the usually quiet coastal area.
