Melbourne Crime News: A bizarre incident erupted in Melbourne, where a teenage boy allegedly stabbed a woman who was on her way to work at a shopping centre in the city’s south-east. According to 9News, the boy was arrested following the stabbing incident.

The incident took place when the 25-year-old victim, who reportedly hails from Mount Waverley, was walking to work inside M-City Shopping Centre in Clayton just before 8 AM when she was stabbed by an unknown male.

Passer-by comes to her rescue

A passer-by came to the woman's aid and called Triple Zero . "Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics assessed and treated one patient at the scene," an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said, as quoted by 9News.

Woman rushed to hospital

The woman sustained injuries following the attack and was rushed to The Alfred Hospital in a serious but stable condition with upper-body injuries. The 16-year-old boy fled the scene but was arrested a short time later at a medical centre in Clayton. He will be interviewed by police. M-City Shopping Centre management has deployed additional security as a precautionary measure in the wake of the incident.

In a separate incident which also occurred in the city, a large group of men ran for cover as one of them was shot outside a cafe in the south-west overnight. Police claimed that the shooting, which took place outside a cafe on Borrack Square in Altona North about 11.30pm on Tuesday (March 17, 2026), could be connected to an illegal tobacco trade.

A large group of people were sitting outside the Cafe Squared eatery when a white Toyota Hilux drove up, and shots were fired into the crowd.
