Melbourne Horror: Two critical among five injured in five-car crash on Monash Freeway, police launch probe
A severe five-car pile-up on Melbourne's Monash Freeway has left five individuals hospitalized, with two in critical condition. The collision, occurring near the Stud Road off-ramp, saw an adult and a young boy sustain serious upper-body injuries....

As police continued the investigation into the devastating accident, five people were rushed to hospital, including an adult and a boy from one vehicle who were in a critical condition. The boy was rushed to the Royal Children’s Hospital and the woman in her 40s was taken to The Alfred, with both sustaining upper-body injuries, 9News reported.
All outbound lanes and one inbound lane of the Monash Freeway remain closed, with the investigation ongoing at the time of filing this report.
In a separate incident in Officer, south-east of Melbourne, a truck driver was left in a serious condition in hospital after two trucks collided on the Princes Freeway at about 12.20pm on Wednesday (April 8, 2026), with the driver trapped inside the wreckage of his cabin for more than two-and-a-half hours before being freed, ABC Australia reported.
The crash led to the closure of all outbound lanes of the freeway, with the Air Ambulance landing on the roadway a short distance from the wreckage.
Police, paramedics, firefighters and State Emergency Service volunteers worked for hours to free one of the drivers who sustained serious injuries to his upper and lower body. He was rushed to The Alfred Hospital, while the driver of the second truck did not suffer injuries.
