Australian reality television personality Konrad Bien-Stephen, known for his appearance on The Bachelorette Australia, has died at 35, his management confirmed on Wednesday, triggering an outpouring of tributes from fellow contestants and fans.

In a statement, talent manager Ella Dolan confirmed the death of Konrad Bien-Stephen, expressing deep sadness and requesting privacy for his family, adding that no further details would be released at this time.

“We ask that media and the public respect the privacy of his family, refrain from speculation, and treat his memory with dignity, not as a headline. He will be deeply missed.”


A fan favourite on the 2021 season of The Bachelorette Australia, Konrad Bien-Stephen later advanced to the semifinal of The Challenge Australia the following year.

Relationship with Abbie Chatfield


Known as much for his personal life as his television career, Konrad Bien-Stephen made headlines in 2021 for his relationship with Abbie Chatfield, after she revealed they were in an open relationship.

According to news.com.au, the relationship ended in 2022, the same year Konrad Bien-Stephen publicly came out as pansexual.

Abbie Chatfield said she was “devastated for his friends and family,” adding she had been aware of Konrad Bien-Stephen’s death for several days and thanked those who reached out with support.

“Konrad was such a kind and sweet person to everyone. A very caring man who deserved to live a very very long life. I am so heartbroken that he doesn’t get to do that. And that his loved ones don’t get to experience that full, long life with him.

Following his breakup with Abbie Chatfield, Konrad Bien-Stephen went on to date ARIA-winning singer-songwriter Thelma Plum.

Beyond television, Konrad Bien-Stephen worked as a Melbourne-based carpenter and described himself as “kinda broke, kinda thriving.”
