Phillip Island is located off the southern coast of Victoria, Australia, about 140 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge at San Remo. The island is a major tourist destination, known for its beaches, wildlife, and coastal scenery.
According to Senitel Times website, residents reported seeing a steady stream of police vehicles, both marked and unmarked, arriving at the scene from early Thursday morning. "They were digging for a new septic with an excavator when they came across a skull and other bones," one local resident said. Another neighbor added, "It’s not aboriginal bones. Too recent, they say."
Victoria Police confirmed the discovery but has provided limited details, citing an ongoing investigation. Senior Sergeant Jason Hullick, from Wonthaggi Police Station, acknowledged the find but declined further comment, according to Senitel Times.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the remains were uncovered at approximately 8:30 am on Thursday.
