Massive delays on Sydney’s M4 after four-vehicle crash at Minchinbury, 10km traffic jam, one hospitalised
A multi-vehicle collision jolted Sydney’s morning commute, packing the M4 motorway with snarled traffic for nearly 10 kilometres after a four-vehicle crash in Minchinbury.

At approximately 5:50 AM on Thursday(June 26), three cars and a truck tumbled into a chaotic pile-up eastbound between Wallgrove Road and the M7 offramp, leaving just one lane open as paramedics rushed to the scene. Traffic cameras showed a slow-moving ballet of confused and frustrated drivers.

A 65‑year‑old woman suffered neck and chest injuries; she was treated onsite before being rushed to Westmead Hospital in stable condition. Two men, a 25‑year‑old and a 38‑year‑old, along with the 42‑year‑old truck driver, escaped without any physical injuries. Still, some drivers admitted feeling shaken.

Traffic meltdown

Live Traffic NSW confirmed the jam extended to nearly 10 km, snarling traffic from Minchinbury’s interchange well into the western suburbs. Desperate commuters reported being stuck for over an hour, some late for early shifts, doctors' appointments, and school drop-offs.

All lanes reopened by 8 AM, but crawling traffic persisted as crews cleared the scene.

Behind the crash

NSW Police's Traffic and Highway Patrol Command is investigating the cause, urging anyone with dash-cam footage or eyewitness accounts to contact Crime Stoppers. Authorities haven’t yet attributed blame. What is clear: multi-vehicle collisions often snowball on high-speed roads, especially during the morning rush.

The M4 links growing western suburbs with the city, carrying thousands each morning. Even a minor incident can ripple across the motorway network, turning a 30‑minute commute into a two‑hour ordeal. Last year, The Australian estimated Western Sydney roads saw a 15 percent rise in multi-car incidents, often fueled by fatigue, tight schedules, and congested lanes.
