About Australia Day

Australia Day, observed on 26 January every year, is a national occasion that invites Australians to come together to reflect on what the country has achieved and the values that continue to shape its future. It is a day of celebration, reflection, and renewed commitment to making Australia an even better place for generations to come.

The date marks the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, when 11 ships led by Captain Arthur Phillip raised the British flag after an eight-month journey from Great Britain. That moment laid the foundations of modern Australia, bringing with it profound and lasting consequences for the continent and its people.
