The deceased was believed to be in his 20s. NSW Ambulance attempted to treat the cyclist; however, he died at the scene. Police further stated that he is yet to be formally identified.
Truck driver rushed to hospital
The truck driver is a 58-year-old man. He was taken to Manning Base Hospital at Taree for mandatory testing.
Pacific Highway southbound remains closed
A crime scene has been established, and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash has commenced. The NSW Police Force informed in its release that the Pacific Highway southbound remains closed and traffic diversions are in place.
This comes days after a man accused of failing to stop after hitting and killing a cyclist in the Hunter Valley region of NSW was charged. According to 9 News, police were on Sunday called to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabkal Drive in Nords Wharf after reports a car and bicycle had collided.
The cyclist was a 42-year-old man who was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. He died due to his injuries the next day.
