Latest data on DownDetector shows a spike in complaints that started around 2:59PM AEDT (January 27, 10:59PM Eastern Time). There were 3,203 complaints on the tracking platform at the time of filing of this report.
Commonwealth Bank customers flood social media with reactions
After Commonwealth Bank’ online banking services went down, several reactions from users flooded social media. “commbank you will be the end of me,” a user wrote on X.
“I think they are down everywhere at the moment (not that it helps),” a third user said.
A user reacted to the issues with online services and called them “painful”.
“@CommBank the app is down AGAIN, seriously?” wrote another user.
Another user reacted and confirmed that “unfortunately” they were also one of them facing the same trouble. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA or Commbank) offers financial services to individuals and businesses. Consumer services include bank and savings accounts, credit cards and loans. Internet banking is available under the NetBank label for consumers and CommBiz for business customers. CommSec offers online securities trading.
This was not the first time that Commonwealth Bank faced such issues. In October 2025 the bank had stated that its banking services, including payments, online access and ATMs, were affected for several hours due to a major outage, according to Australian media. The issues were later resolved, and services were restored.
