The $3.80 six-pack of Iced Donuts now comes with just pink and yellow icing. Following a wave of complaints on social media about the absence of the chocolate flavor, a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle that the beloved chocolate donuts will be returning to stores soon.
“We’ve seen a surge in demand for our bakery chocolate-iced donuts in recent weeks, and while we’re thrilled they’re such a hit, this has meant some of our stores have experienced stock challenges,” the spokesperson said.
“We’ve worked with our supplier to increase supply, and customers can expect [to] see their beloved chocolate donuts back on shelves from later this week”. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we worked through this.”
The discussion was sparked when a concerned Coles shopper posted on Reddit asking why two local stores had recently stopped carrying chocolate iced donuts, prompting a flood of replies from users claiming to be Coles employees.
“Coles employee here. The suppliers are not providing the chocolate fondant lately. We've been [constantly] ordering them but not receiving any. Not surprised the other stores are in the same situation,” one person wrote.
Which flavor is the best?
At the same time, many shoppers said they were delighted by the absence of the chocolate flavor in the six-pack, expressing a clear preference for the pink and yellow iced donuts.
“Ooooh this is a dream come true in our house. No one likes the chocolate,” one person commented. Chocolate ones are the worst flavour. Just send out trays of strawberry ones,” someone else requested.
