World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz experienced one of the lighter, more humorous moments of the Australian Open 2026 when spectators shouted playful marriage proposals from the stands during his fourth-round match against Tommy Paul on January 25. As the high-profile clash unfolded at Rod Laver Arena, the crowd suddenly erupted with cheeky calls directed at the Spanish tennis star. Shouts of “Carlos, marry my daughter,” “Marry my sister-in-law,” and even a bold “Marry me” rang out, cutting through the intensity of the contest and triggering laughter across the stadium.

Alcaraz appeared amused but unfazed, flashing his trademark grin (or titter, if someone wants to say) while maintaining focus as he continued trading powerful baseline rallies with Paul. The brief interruptions did little to disrupt his rhythm, instead adding a carnival-like atmosphere to the match, a reminder of Alcaraz’s growing global popularity beyond his on-court dominance.

Clips of the moment quickly circulated on social media, where fans joked about Alcaraz’s expanding “marriage market” during Grand Slam action. One user wrote, “Our man is just trying to stay warm and hit forehands, and suddenly he’s got to choose between someone’s daughter, in-laws, and a freaking direct applicant.”

Another user commented, “Unbelievable craze for the champion,” while others praised Alcaraz for keeping a straight face amid the distractions. “They be cutting up in the crowd real bad. And the fact that he kept a straight face is everything,” one post read.

Not all reactions were lighthearted, however. Some fans urged spectators not to distract the world No. 1 during play. “They shouldn’t distract him please,” one user wrote, while another questioned whether the clip was from the same match.
