According to ABC News, who verified the video of the final ghastly moments of the attack frame-by-frame, both Sajid and Naveed were stationed at the bridge mostly during the entire terror attack. The video, considered too graphic to show in full, was recorded from roughly 50 meters away from the bridge. The footage captured five minutes and 52 seconds of the attack, ending when Naveed is critically wounded and the firefight stops. During that time, audio records 103 gunshots, a combination of weapon fire from both the attackers and responding police officers.
HOW THE BONDI BEACH ATTACK UNFOLDED
The attack began when Sajid opened fire with what appeared to be a long-barrel firearm at two people attempting to flee. They disappeared behind a parked car and were later found motionless in the same spot. Sajid then left his position on the bridge and was out of view for nearly three minutes. During that time, his son continued firing toward the Hanukkah event after picking up a second firearm left on the bridge.
Footage also shows Naveed gesturing for some unseen individuals to move away without shooting at them, indicating the Jewish community event was the intended target, reported ABC News. While away from the bridge, Sajid was tackled and disarmed by a bystander, forcing the attacker to retreat. He then walked back toward the bridge, where his son was still actively firing, as per the footage reviewed by ABC News.
After 3 minutes, the gunmen then appeared to come under fire from police. Separate videos show officers engaging them from nearby positions, with police gunfire clearly distinguishable by sound. At this point, Naveed is seen ducking behind cover, briefly popping up to return fire. The shooters are subsequently engaged by police from multiple directions, intensifying the confrontation.
After a minute or so, Sajid picked up another firearm and, together with his son, appeared to resume firing toward the Hanukkah event. Moments afterward, he was seemingly shot and killed by a police officer positioned behind him and out of frame. A separate video from another angle showed an officer who may have fired the fatal shot.
About a minute later, according to ABC News, Naveed collapsed after apparently being shot. He briefly got back up and appeared to take aim again, but was struck once more and fell to the ground. He continued to move for a short time but did not rise again, effectively bringing the attack to an end.
