Bernie Lynch, co-founder of the Australian band Eurogliders, has died following a battle with cancer at 65. His death marks the loss of a significant figure in Australia’s 1980s music scene, where he helped shape a distinctive blend of pop, new wave, and post-punk sounds.

Lynch was widely respected as a guitarist, songwriter, and performer whose work contributed to the band’s commercial success and enduring legacy.

Formed in Perth in 1980, Eurogliders quickly rose to prominence with a string of successful releases. The band’s 1984 album "This Island" became a major breakthrough, producing the hit single “Heaven (Must Be There),” which reached No. 2 in Australia and gained international attention.

After founding bands The Stockings and Living Single, Lynch played a central creative role in Eurogliders alongside vocalist Grace Knight, helping define their sound and appeal during a vibrant era for Australian music.

Beyond commercial success, Lynch was known for his musicianship and songwriting, contributing to a catalogue that resonated with audiences both in Australia and abroad. Eurogliders’ music became emblematic of 1980s pop-rock, blending catchy melodies with socially aware themes.
