Legendary Australian Rules footballer Barrie Robran’s death sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting an emotional reaction from a well-known radio presenter who abruptly left a live broadcast on Wednesday morning upon hearing the news. The star broadcaster was visibly shaken on air and unable to continue the program.

The AFL community is mourning the loss of South Australian football legend Barrie, who passed away at the age of 77.



The tragic news deeply affected his niece, radio host Jade Robran, who was live on air co-hosting FIVEAA’s Winter Breakfast with Tom Rehn when she abruptly left the studio just before 7am. Rehn later informed listeners that Jade had stepped away due to a private matter.


Robran, a triple Magarey Medal winner and one of the most revered figures in South Australian football history, played 201 games for North Adelaide between 1967 and 1980. He coached the club from 1978 to 1980, led them to two SANFL premierships, and was inducted into both the South Australian and Australian Football Halls of Fame.

North Adelaide released a heartfelt statement honoring their icon: "Barrie was, without doubt, in our view the greatest ever to play the game of Australian Rules Football, and certainly the most revered son of our beloved Roosters."
