Australian Stock Market ends week on a high: ASX 200 sees gain, other key indexes also witness upward trend; check top gainers and losers

The Australian stock market ended Friday (December 12, 2025) on a high, with the S&P/ASX 200 closing with a gain of 105.30 points, or 1.23%, to 8,697.30. The rise in the ASX 200 helped set a new 20-day high. The top-performing stocks in this index were GREATLAND RESOURCES LIMITED and BOSS ENERGY LTD, up 9.90% and 8.59%, respectively.

According to the ASX website, over the last five days, the index has gained 0.73% and is currently 4.58% off of its 52-week high.

ASX 200: Top gainers and losers

According to the latest update pertaining to the S&P/ASX 200 available on the ASX website, several companies recorded notable gains. Greatland Resources Limited (GGP) rose to 9.440, an increase of +0.850 (9.895%). Boss Energy Ltd (BOE) followed, with its price reaching 1.770, up +0.140 (8.589%). Genesis Minerals Limited (GMD) advanced to 6.900, reflecting a gain of +0.490 (7.644%). Vault Minerals Limited (VAU) moved to 5.350, rising +0.320 (6.361%), while Alcoa Corporation (AAI) lifted to 70.530, showing an increase of +4.010 (6.028%).

In contrast, several companies experienced declines. Catapult Sports Ltd (CAT) fell to 4.220, down -0.130 (-2.989%). Neuren Pharmaceuticals Limited (NEU) declined to 19.010, a decrease of -0.580 (-2.961%). Austal Limited (ASB) dropped to 6.230, reflecting a fall of -0.190 (-2.960%). Lovisa Holdings Limited (LOV) eased to 29.940, down -0.860 (-2.793%), while Guzman y Gomez Limited (GYG) slipped to 21.050, decreasing -0.550 (-2.547%).

ASX: Other key indexes

The local sharemarket finished the session higher, with all major indices recording gains. The S&P/ASX 20 opened at 4722.90 and closed at 4782.20, rising +1.3%. The S&P/ASX 50 also strengthened, lifting from an opening level of 8232.10 to a closing level of 8332.70, an increase of +1.2%.

Broader indices followed a similar trend. The S&P/ASX 100 moved from 7146.80 at the open to 7233.00 at the close, up +1.2%. Likewise, the S&P/ASX 300 rose +1.2%, opening at 8546.80 and finishing the day at 8650.10.
