Australian shares end flat on final full trading day.

Australian shares ended flat on Tuesday (December 30, 2025), the market's final full trading session of the year. Investors booking profits in miners and gold stocks offset gains in financials in holiday-thin trading. The S&P/ASX ‌200 index ‌finished 0.1% lower at 8,717.1 points, on track for a third straight annual rise.

The S&P/ASX 200 closed down just 8.60 points on Tuesday to 8,717.10. According to the ASX website, the bottom-performing stocks in this index were SILEX SYSTEMS LIMITED and LIONTOWN LIMITED, down 4.92% and 4.78%, respectively. The index has lost 0.89% for the last five days but sits 4.37% below its 52-week high.

According to Reuters, turnover was approximately 40% of the benchmark's 30-day average, with Wednesday's (December 31, 2025) session due to be shortened on account of New Year's Eve.


ASX 200: Top gainers and losers


On the gains side, Netwealth Group Limited (NWL) ended the session higher at 25.690, up 0.520 or 2.066%. Temple & Webster Group Ltd (TPW) also advanced, closing at 13.750 after gaining 0.250, representing an increase of 1.851%. Mirvac Group (MGR) finished at 2.060, rising 0.037, or 1.829%, while Santos Limited (STO) added 0.100, or 1.663%, to close at 6.110. Centuria Capital Group (CNI) rounded out the gainers, ending the day at 2.030, up 0.032 or 1.601%.

Among the declines, Silex Systems Limited (SLX) recorded the steepest fall, closing at 8.310 after dropping 0.430, or 4.920%. Liontown Limited (LTR) slipped to 1.595, down 0.080 or 4.777%. Newmont Corporation (NEM) ended at 149.150, losing 6.350, which equates to a decline of 4.084%. Catalyst Metals Limited (CYL) fell 0.300, or 3.948%, to close at 7.300, while Evolution Mining Limited (EVN) finished lower at 12.560 after shedding 0.440, or 3.385%.
