Arthur Freeman, the convicted child murderer, has been rushed to the hospital after being assaulted in prison. Freeman, who became infamous in Australia in 2009 after throwing his four-year-old daughter Darcey to her death, was reportedly attacked on April 8 at the Western Plains Correctional Centre in Lara on Wednesday, according to the Herald Sun.

“Corrections Victoria staff responded quickly to an incident between two prisoners at Western Plains Correctional Centre shortly before midday today (Wednesday),” a Department of Justice and Community Safety spokeswoman told the outlet.

Freeman, 54, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by 9News.

Arthur Freeman was sentenced to life imprisonment over the murder of his daughter Darcey, who was thrown off Melbourne's West Gate Bridge in January 2009, just before her first day of school. Freeman has been held in maximum-security prison since April 2011, when he was sentenced to a non-parole period of 32 years.
