Technology giant Apple has registered a 90 per cent jump in net profit at $3.07 billion in the first three months of 2010, helped by sales of iPhone and Mac computers.

NEW YORK: Technology giant Apple has registered a 90 per cent jump in net profit at $3.07 billion in the first three months of 2010, helped by sales of iPhone and Mac computers.

The company's revenue stood at $13.5 billion for the second quarter ended March 27, 2010, an increase of 49 per cent from the year-ago period, Apple said in a statement.

Apple doubled its iPhone sales from this time from last year and sold a record 8.8 million handsets during the quarter. The figure was better than its record sales of 8.7 million during the peak holiday buying season last year.

Demand for Mac computers is also on the rise and Apple sold 2.9 million computers during the January-March period, 33 per cent more than it did a year ago.

Besides, the company sold 10.89 million iPods during the quarter, representing an one per cent unit decline from the year-ago quarter.

"We're thrilled to report our best non-holiday quarter ever, with revenues up 49 per cent and profits up 90 per cent, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said.
