Air Caledonia to offer flights to Seoul
Air Caledonia will start flying between South Korea and New Caledonia from June 22 in a bid to bolster tourism in the French Pacific territory, the company announced on Friday.
The carrier will offer two flights a week to connect with Air France services to Paris. Air Caledonia and Air France already share seven return flights a week between Noumea and the French capital.
Air Caledonia International chief Jean-Michel Masson said they hoped to tap into a market that brought 650,000 Koreans to Oceania in 2007, though the territory has struggled to attract tourists.
Masson forecast future tourist revenue of about 10 million euros (15.4 million US dollars) from the air link.
Authorities in New Caledonia, located around 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles) from Australia, are keen to broaden the territory's economy, which is heavily dependent on nickel mining.
