KATHMANDU: At least three new international airlines are entering Nepal's aviation sector to take benefit of the booming tourism industry in the Himalayan nation, which showed signs of revival after the decade-long Maoist insurgency came to an end through a peaceful transformation.

Oriental Thai Airlines, Etihad Airlines - the national airlines of UAE, and Silk Air, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, are entering into the business within a few months, according to officials.

Oriental Thai Airlines is preparing to launch flights between Kathmandu and Bangkok from August third week. Etihad Airlines and Silk Air are planning to start their flights from October, sources at the Civil Aviation Authority said.

Out of 14 global airlines operating between Kathmandu and other international cities, five are planning to increase flight frequency in the near future.

Nepal Airlines, the national flag carrier of Nepal, is also resuming its flights after a ten-day halt, as its jets have undergone engineering check-ups and maintenance, sources at the NA said.
