“Today, I will not address Zubeen Garg’s death as an incident, but as a murder case,” Sarma said. “The special investigation team (SIT) probing the case is prepared to file its charge sheet before December 17, with a target date of December 8."
Garg died in Singapore in September under mysterious circumstances. The matter is being investigated by a special investigation team (SIT) of Assam Police.
“If something happens in a foreign land, we can file the chargesheet only after the home ministry’s approval. On Sunday, I met home minister Amit Shah and requested early clearance,” Sarma said. “I believe the SIT will soon write to the MHA, and once we get approval, we will immediately file the chargesheet; most likely by December 8.”
Sarma met Shah here on Sunday evening to discuss ongoing welfare initiatives and key developmental issues concerning the state.
“We have provided 10 bighas for Zubeen Samadhi, just as we did for Dr Bhupen Hazarika. We wanted to maintain parity between both their resting places by offering similar land size," said Sarma.
During the meeting, the chief minister apprised Shah of the progress in welfare schemes and developmental projects undertaken in Assam.
The discussion also covered strategies to accelerate the state’s socio-economic development and ensure the effective implementation of central and state government programmes aimed at public welfare.
On X, the chief minister wrote, "I briefed Hon’ble Union Home Minister @AmitShah Ji on various ongoing welfare works and other issues pertaining to Assam. We are extremely grateful for his guidance and relentless efforts to strengthen Assam’s growth trajectory."
