Guwahati: The Centre has sent an official request to the authorities in Singapore for a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), in connection with the investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

In a post on X, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Ministry of Home Affairs has now formally invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) in connection with the FIR lodged by Assam Police regarding the unfortunate demise of our beloved Zubeen." Zubeen died during a yacht trip in Singapore on September 19. The autopsy in Singapore termed the cause of death as "drowning."
