Dhruv Rathee released hours after Delhi Police detained him ahead of CJP's Jantar Mantar protest
Rathee had been taken into custody from his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram, as police intensified preventive measures to stop demonstrators from gathering in the national capital.
The CJP had called for a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes concerning Form 6, which is used for voter registration.
Delhi Police had earlier denied permission for the demonstration, citing security concerns and procedural requirements.
As part of the preventive measures, police personnel were deployed at strategic locations to restrict protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar
Meanwhile, the proposed demonstration prompted the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) to announce the closure of Connaught Place market on Saturday.
NDTA Joint Secretary Amit Gupta said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety, considering the thousands of visitors who frequent the commercial hub during weekends.
