YouTuber Dhruv Rathee detained from Gurugram residence ahead of CJP protest, say reports
The police have stepped up preventive detentions and deployed their personnel at strategic locations to prevent protesters from reaching the protest site. Delhi Police said around 150 protesters had been detained so far.
Earlier in the week, Delhi Police denied permission for the protest, citing security considerations and procedural requirements.
The CJP, in a post on X, confirmed Dhruv Rathee's detention and alleged that the government was afraid of young people who refused to remain silent.
Meanwhile, the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) has confirmed that the Connaught Place market will remain shut on Saturday due to the proposed protest.
Brijesh Goyal, chairperson of the Chamber of Trade and Industry, estimated that traders could suffer losses of around Rs 2,000 crore due to the market closure.
The CJP has called the demonstration against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of voter-list manipulation during the SIR of electoral rolls and changes relating to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.
