Youth Cong workers detained for ethanol protest march to Gadkari's home

Mumbai: Youth Congress workers on Monday took out a march to the Nagpur residence of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to protest against ethanol being promoted as a fuel. Several workers were detained after they tried to climb the barricades that the police had placed before Gadkari's residence. This comes days after Uddhav Thackeray said the Opposition would take up the issue of ethanol being mixed with petrol as they claimed that it was damaging vehicles.

Congress workers shouted slogans claiming that ethanol fuel was bringing down the mileage, damaging vehicles and impacting poor people.

Although only a hundred-odd people took part in the protest, the march is significant as the Maharashtra opposition believes that the ethanol issue has got a lot of traction among people who are unhappy with the rollout as it was allegedly damaging vehicle parts. On July 26, while holding a 'victory rally' to celebrate the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as education minister, Uddhav Thackeray said they would be taking up the ethanol rollout issue after the NEET protests.
